The 10th anniversary collection HEARTLAND 2020/21 by MIRKKA METSOLA is inspired by punk, 70's glam and sci-fi warrior women. The title comes from the Sisters Of Mercy song and Heartland refers to a place where the roots are strong and where it all started.
The collection is mainly based on unisex products wanting to expand the purpose of a clothing and to dissipate the existence of gender roles. The purple bleached print was born in an art project and continues to exist in the form of a collection.
This collection really celebrates hand craftsmanship and pays even more attention to sustainability. The bleached print cotton fabric base is an innovation from Finland and made from entirely of recycled textile waste. In order to create the print the fabric is bleach treated and hand dyed at Mirkka Metsola Studio, then further cut and sewed in Tallinn, Estonia. All accessories, caps and bags are locally hand made in Helsinki. The accessory line is mostly cut from surplus material and harnesses are made from vegetable tanned leather.
